The K. J. Somaiya Institute of Engineering & Information Technology (KJSIEIT), was established by the Somaiya Trust in the 2001, at Ayurvihar campus, Sion , Mumbai. The institute was set up primarily in response to the need for imparting quality education in the field of Information Technology and allied branches of Engineering and Technology. The institute aims to provide the necessary dynamism in the light of expanding knowledge and changing socio-economic requirements of modern society. The ideas and ideals on which K J Somaiya built this institute revolve around imbibing cultural values among the youth while simultaneously imparting global perspective.
The Institute is approved by AICTE New Delhi, DTE Mumbai, Affiliated to University of Mumbai and Accredited by Tata Consultancy Services Limited.

K. J. Somaiya Institute Of Engineering & Information Technology is located at Sion in Mumbai. It a part of the 90 acre extensive Somaiya Ayurvihar campus which also houses the K. J. Somaiya Hospital, Medical College and Cancer Research Centre. The campus has large grounds that host open cricket and football matches. In addition, the campus has Basketball and Volleyball courts. The campus is conveniently located off the Eastern Express Highway near Sion. It is close to Sion Railway Station on the Central Railway Line and Chunabhatti Railway Station on the Harbour Railway Line. The college building is an 8 storey structure and houses all the departments of the college, as well as a canteen and a gymkhana.
Every year office bearers to the Students' Council are elected from a list of candidates selected by the faculty of KJSIEIT. The Students' Council thus elected is responsible for the organization of social and cultural events; growth of on-campus student clubs and development of professional networks for industry placements.
The post of General Secretary is the highest post one can hold at KJSIEIT. Past General Secretaries include -
KJSIEIT Alumni Association comprising students who have completed their final year of the four-year degree course. The Alumni Association is a platform for ex-students with the talent, zeal and desire to make valuable contributions to their Alma Mater. The association arranges Alumni meets every year in the month of February. Alumni give their feedback to improve and develop their departments and the institute. There are mentoring programs in place wherein members of the Alumni share their personal and professional experiences with the students. This fosters awareness among current students about trends in the IT industry as well as what to expect when they start they professional careers.
